Jinhua

 

Lying in central Zhejiang Province, Jinhua is adjacent to Taizhou to the east, Lishui to the south, Quzhou to the southwest, Shaoxing to the northeast and the provincial capital, Hangzhou, to the northwest. China Commodity City, the largest commodity market in China, it is located in Yiwu, a county-level city of Jinhua.

Jinhua is a transport hub in Zhejiang Province. The Jinhua-Wenzhou Railway and the Jinhua-Jiande Railway start from the city, while the Zhegan (Zhejiang-Jiangxi) Railway, State Highway 330 and the Hangzhou-Jinhua-Quzhou Highway run across the city. The Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport and the Yiwu Airport are within 1 hour's drive from Jinhua's city center. Ningbo-houshan Port, the second largest port in mainland China in terms of container throughput in 2007, is 3 hours'  drive from Jinhua.

Jinhua enjoys a subtropical monsoon climate, with warm, moist weather and four distinct seasons. The camellia, which usually blossoms between January and March, is the city's official flower. The official tree is the camphor tree, whose leaves have a glossy, waxy appearance.

Jinhua is a place where Venus and a star in Aquarius compete for splendor. Its history extends to 222 BC, when, during the Qin Dynasty, it was set up as a county under the jurisdiction of Shaoxing. It was named Jinhua during the Sui Dynasty in 598 and later it became a prefecture. Wu Opera, the local opera in Jinhua, has a history of over 400 years. It is well known in China for its simplicity and naturalness and its special vocal music.

Major scenic spots in Jinhua include Duke Shi's Palace of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom, Shuanglong Cave (also known as Double Dragon Cave), Hengdian Movie City, Fangyan Cliff, Zhuge Eight Diagrams Village, Xinhua Mountain Scenic Resort, Six Cave Scenic Resort, Yuyuan Taiji Astrocompass Village and Guodong Ancient Ecological Village. Duke Shi's Palace, situated in east Jinhua, and was built in the late Qing Dynasty (AD 1644-1911). A large number of mural paintings, carvings and other splendid ornaments have been preserved in the palace. Shuanglong Cave, lying in the north of Jinhua, is renowned for its Taoist history and for its mountain forest scenery. Hengdian Movie City, the largest movie base in Asia, is located 36 km from Yiwu. It consists of seven areas, which have an architectural style from the West Zhou Dynasty to modern times. The most well known local dish is Jinhua Dry-cured Ham, which mixes diverse ingredients and has a delicate flavor.
